Commencement of Russian production

Otawara, Tochigi, Dec. 16, 2016 - Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation (Toshiba Medical; headquarters: Otawara, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan; President: Toshio Takiguchi) has concluded contracts with ZAO “Roentgenprom” (headquarters: Moscow, Russia; Chairman of the Board of directors: Nikolay Blinov) through its subsidiary, ZAO “Toshiba Medical Systems” (headquarters: Moscow, Russia; General director: Rustam Bakhtiozin), regarding licensing and subcontracting production of medical equipment (CT scanners), and will begin manufacturing pending all necessary approvals from the Russian authorities. Toshiba Medical is currently undergoing the final approval process, and plans to start production in early 2017.

Under the Russian government's program for the development of Russia's healthcare system to 2020, advances in healthcare technology and improvements in healthcare infrastructure are being implemented with the aim of reforming the entire healthcare system, and the market is undergoing steady expansion accordingly. Demand for advanced diagnostic imaging systems such as CT scanners and X-ray systems in the medical equipment market is expected to grow.

On the other hand, the Russian government is promoting a policy to give preference to domestically produced medical equipment. Toshiba Medical has been considering manufacturing in Russia in order to expand its access to the Russian market and contribute to the development of healthcare in Russia.

ZAO “Roentgenprom”, to which Toshiba Medical is subcontracting production of medical systems, started production of X-ray systems in 1996 as a subsidiary company of ZAO “Amico”, one of the leading companies in Russia manufacturing and selling medical equipment. The company emphasizes a high level of quality control in its products, acquiring ISO9001 certification in 2002, and we are confident that they will meet our high quality requirements.

In September 2015, Toshiba Medical, in cooperation with Medical Excellence JAPAN, established the Russia-Japan Cardiac Imaging Training Center at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. The establishment of the training center was implemented as part of a program for international expansion of Japanese medical services, conducted by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry since 2013. The training center will make a significant contribution to improving the quality of life and life expectancy for Russians, and contribute to improving healthcare in Russia through the provision of education on diagnostic medical imaging.

By starting manufacture of CT scanners, Toshiba Medical is promoting the domestic production of advanced medical equipment in Russia.
In addition, through such provision of advanced medical equipment, Toshiba Medical will continue to contribute to the expansion of healthcare in Russia.
